Expert Hardwood Installation Throughout Fairfield County
Hardwood floors aren’t just another home improvement project in Westport. For many homes here, they’re the foundation that ties everything else together, from kitchen cabinets to wall colors to overall home value. We’ve installed new hardwood floors in just about every neighborhood in town, from historic homes along Compo Road to new construction in the Saugatuck area. Each project brings its own challenges, whether it’s matching existing woodwork in a 1920s Colonial or creating a contemporary look in an open-concept renovation.
We don’t start with flooring samples, we start by figuring out what actually makes sense for your home. Some houses here in Westport do best with solid hardwood, but others, especially closer to the water, really need engineered wood that can handle humidity swings. We look at the space, how it’s used, and what you’re expecting long-term. After doing this for 30-plus years across Fairfield County, we’ve found that getting those details right early on prevents a lot of issues later. If you’re after a Wood Floor Installation Service in Westport, CT, we’ll help you get it done the way it should be.

Types of Wood Flooring We Install
We have installed many different kinds of hardwood floors around Westport, depending on what makes sense for each home. Most of our customers still go with solid hardwood, varying depending on what is most popular at the time. Check out these pages for more information on these topics:
- Engineered Wood Floor Installation
- White & Red Oak Floor Installation
- Laminate Flooring Installation
- Subfloor Preparation & Leveling
The wood we use is the real deal. It is the highest quality and can be refinished multiple times and tends to last for generations. Oak is our biggest seller by far. White oak is what is really popular right now, folks like its cleaner grain and how it takes lighter stains. Red oak is still popular in some of the more traditional homes around town. We also install maple, hickory and walnut when customers want something different.
Engineered wood makes more sense in certain spots. We’ve put it in plenty of homes along Compo Beach where moisture is an issue. The good stuff has a thick top layer of real wood over plywood layers that resist warping. You can refinish it a couple times, and most people can’t tell it from solid wood once it’s installed.
We also handle laminate flooring when the budget calls for it. Works well in rental properties or spaces that take a beating. Today’s better laminates actually look pretty convincing, especially in rooms that don’t get scrutinized too closely.
Most hardwood installations in Westport run between $12-28 per square foot, depending on the wood you pick and what’s under your current floor. Subfloor issues can add to the cost, especially in older Westport homes where leveling might be needed. We provide exact figures after seeing your space in person.
For 1000 square feet in a Westport home, expect about 3-4 days for installation, then another 3-5 days for finishing, depending on the stain and finish you choose. Weather affects drying time too – summer installations dry faster than during damp fall months here in Connecticut.
Select grade has the cleanest look and works well in contemporary Westport homes. Character grade shows more grain and knots – popular in the historic district. We typically use select grade for formal areas and character grade in casual spaces. It’s mostly about the look you want, not quality differences.
Not better, just different. Solid hardwood lasts longer in most Westport homes, but engineered makes more sense near the shore or over concrete slabs. We install both daily. Solid can be refinished more times, while engineered handles moisture better. It really depends on which room we’re talking about.
Absolutely. Real estate agents tell us hardwood floors help Westport homes sell faster and for more money. Most buyers here expect hardwood in main living areas. We’ve done countless pre-sale installations where homeowners recouped their investment plus some extra when they sold.
In some Westport homes, yes, but we usually recommend removal first. Keeping old flooring raises height issues at doorways and stairs. We’ve installed over existing floors in Saugatuck condos where removal wasn’t practical, but starting fresh typically gives better results and avoids problems down the road. We can assess your specific situation during our free estimate.
Schedule Your Free Consultation
Getting started is straightforward. Just give us a call or use the contact form, and Rick will come out to look at your space. Westport consultations usually happen within a week of your call, sometimes sooner if we’re already working in your neighborhood.
During the visit, we’ll measure the space, check your subfloor, discuss wood options, and answer specific questions about your project. Unlike bigger companies that send salespeople, you’ll meet directly with the person overseeing your installation. There’s no pressure – just practical advice based on what we find.
We bring samples to show wood types and stain colors, though these look different in every home’s lighting. Most Westport clients appreciate seeing options in their actual space rather than in a showroom setting.
After we’ve checked everything out, we’ll put together a clear breakdown of what everything costs – wood, labor, and any extra subfloor work that might be needed. Our quote holds for 30 days. Most folks in town like having a few weeks to think it over, especially when they’re juggling other home projects at the same time.
